We all live in Norwood because our families brought us here or we chose to call this place home. In either case we all love the same things about our city. We are a small community. We know our neighbors. We use our front porches and take walks along our sidewalks. We wave at each other while we are swerving through our streets in between parked cars and oncoming traffic.... or potholes.
The Mayor operates the city's daily functions while City Council's duty is to oversee the budget and ordinances that help our city be a functioning community. While there are some complicated issues that arise, Council's job is frequently about the mundane oversight over the professionals who keep the city running, like the Safety Service Director, Public Works Director, and our emergency response departments.
What our residents need most in a councilperson is to come to meetings prepared, take in as much relevant information as possible, and discern the right steps for the long-term benefit of our community. The most important element of this service to the city is to calmly observe and listen, then roll your sleeves up and do the job.
While Norwood has had severe financial issues in the past, we are back on track. In the past, many desperately needed issues were simply put off to survive desperate times. Norwood is in the midst of a time of growth. As the opportunities arise, Council and the Mayor must bravely and wisely move Norwood forward. We can no longer afford to ask the next generation to solve the problems that occured on our watch.
As a member of Council, Jeff will work to create Norwood's first strategic budget. This will allow the city operations to address our current and future needs, not the needs of the past.
